South LA Bans Fast Food
Fast food restaurants are not welcome in South Los Angeles. Pre-made dishes and a limited menu will get your restaurant turned down for a business permit in the district, with the aim of cutting down on fried, processed foods. The hope is to raise the availability of fresh produce and foods. But is this a good thing, or too much government control? Some people who work in the area installing ADT enjoy a nice burger during the lunch hour, and despite the ban by the local government officials in South Los Angeles, there is probably a very good chance they can still locate a fast food restaurant somewhere nearby. Still, the decision has been controversial.
Small business owners say this makes it very difficult for them to make a living in southern LA; places like Tommy’s Burger Shack can’t compete with the influx of sit-down restaurants in the area since new fast food establishments cannot be built.
